Aims & Mission

HUTT RADIO’S MISSION STATEMENT

"To inform, educate, and entertain the Region’s adult population.

THE WHAT:

An FM Public Service radio station [Community Radio -Wellington/Hutt Region].

FORMAT:

This is genuine broad-casting, not niche radio or vanity narrow-casting, as in commercial networks from Auckland. A bit 'Parish Pump' - and unashamedly so.

FOR WHO:

All demographics 35 years and over. 50% of the Region’s population!

THE CONTENT:

Entirely region focused: news, social issues, business, community and age issues, health, creative arts, leisure and lifestyle, heritage, sport, etc. Music priorities: Adult taste - a light mix of 60s, 70s and 80s plus specialist shows featuring Jazz, Country, etc; Hutt/Wellington, NZ and some ethnic music in Non-English shows.

Hutt Radio is the "go-to" station in the event of a local disaster. We have communications and stand-by systems in place to ensure that Hutt Radio will be on the air in any regional emergency.

THE WHY:

We have no electronic medium with acceptable Hutt content [i.e. radio, website, or television]. We have no daily print medium with acceptable Hutt content.

THE HOW:

We 'employ' voluntary staff (many contributing from home/workplace - suitable for the less-abled and mobility-restricted). Hutt Radio will, hopefully eventually, be funded by the annual NZ On Air community radio fund, supplemented by sponsorship and advertising as dictated by the Broadcasting Act.

Our aim is to add value to our region by delivering inter-communications - drawn from many sources - thereby contributing to our Hutt Region’s future progress.
