7-24 July | Sweet As Hutt’s Hot Chocolate Challenge

This 7 – 24 July 2022, Lower Hutt cafés bring you their most fantastic hot chocolate creations.

In 2015, ten local cafes agreed to each create a unique hot chocolate, in the hopes of attracting the attention of hot chocolate lovers…and it did! Since then, eight different hot chocolates have been created by twenty-nine cafes, restaurants and bakeries. More than 53,000 hot chocolates have been consumed during the last seven Challenges!

The Sweet As Hutt’s Hot Chocolate Challenge™ was started by Hutt City Council as part of a regeneration of the City Centre. Designed to raise the profile of its many hospitality businesses, the Challenge encourages people to brave the cold and experience their city through unique and creative hot chocolates. Set in the July school holidays each year the Challenge has become Lower Hutt’s sweetest winter event to enjoy with friends and whanau.

Now in its eighth year, twenty hospitality businesses all around Central Hutt have each created unique and decadent hot chocolates for Sweet As Hutt’s Hot Chocolate Challenge™ 2022.

In 2020 the Challenge went digital, introducing a website and online voting in response to COVID-19 and to reduce paper waste.

Your vote counts! The hot chocolate with the most votes wins the title ‘Sweetest Hutt’s Hot Chocolate’. Vote by scanning the QR Code at the cafe – it is a simple three step process using your smart phone.
